Our NCI Salutes 30 Leaders in their Thirties recognition reception is quickly approaching, now is the time to show your support of our community's amazing young leaders! NCI's Board of Directors has endorsed the Ferguson-Florissant School District's no tax rate increase bond issue that will be on the August 3rd, 2010 ballot. If approved by voters this is expected to raise $25 million dollars to be used for projects that focus on technology, energy savings and supporting student academic achievement. Carolyn Pryor-Luster, M.D.

Congratulations to NCI board member Dr. Carolyn Pryor-Luster, on being named the new Medical Director of SSM Maternity Services. Carolyn is an Obstetrician & Gynecologist at Serenity Women's Healthcare, Inc. and has been on staff at SSM DePaul Health Center for the past 10 years. For more information click here.

The North County municipalities of Bridgeton, Ferguson, Florissant, Hazelwood and St. Ann will be hosting the 10th Annual North County Gala, "Night of Legends" event on Friday, September 3rd from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the James J. Eagan Community Center. This event will be held for senior citizens in our communities. Donations would be appreciated and will keep the cost of the tickets affordable for everyone and also provide attendance prizes, snacks, and decorations that will make this a memorable event for our seniors. Christian Hospital was awarded a $30,000 grant from Express Scripts Foundation to use in support of services for the Diabetes Busters mobile unit, which provides more than 5,000 free screenings each year as a part of the Christian Hospital Diabetes Institute's community outreach initiatives. Dr. Carolyn Pryor-Luster, North County Inc. board member has been named the new Medical Director of SSM Maternity Services. Dr. Pryor-Luster will oversee the House OB Programs at SSM DePaul Health Center, SSM St. Joseph Health Center, SSM St. Joseph Hospital West and SSM St. Clare Health Center. She will participate in the strategic planning and goal setting of the Maternal Services and will provide direction and support of the Network OB Quality and Risk Program. Chief Matthies and Mayor Patt Robinson
The City of Hazelwood's Fire Chief, Jim Matthies was recognized by the city for his 25 years of dedicated service as a City employee. Chief Matthies has spent 17 of those years as the Fire Chief of the Hazelwood Fire Department. CLICK HERE [PDF] for more details.
Ferguson-Florissant School District's five McCluer High School students were recognized for their achievements in the St. Louis Cappies Program. Cappie's reviewers critiqued McCluer's theatrical plays and honored top performers with awards. Toy Jones, a senior, won Best Comic Actor in a Play for his performance, as well as a $2000 scholarship to Lindenwood University. CLICK HERE [PDF] for more details.

Katie Guyton
Pattonville School District's teacher, Katie Guyton was recently presented with the Bejamin Hooks Award by the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) Youth Council. The award honors outstanding educators who promote diversity. Guyton is a sixth-grade social studies teacher at Homan Middle School.

Beth Lappe
Trinity Catholic High School's learning consultant Beth Lappe will be recognized with a Peabody/Logos Leaders in Education Award. The award acknowledges outstanding educators and mentors in public, private and charter schools in the region. Please CLICK HERE [PDF] for more information.
The University of Missouri - St. Louis received a donation of $1 million from Boeing toward the construction of a new building on the campus. The building will house the College of Business and Administration. CLICK HERE for details.
   
 

Fletcher Wells II and Kim Bakker
North County Inc.'s chairwoman Kim Bakker and treasurer Fletcher Wells II celebrated with the Northwest County Chamber of Commerce on July 16th for the City of Woodson Terrace's new City Hall location. Guests were welcomed with refreshments and a tour of the new state of the art facility. Congratulations Woodson Terrace on this great new facility!

Dr. Rance Thomas
North County Inc. board member Dr. Rance Thomas will join a distinguished group of individuals on November 14th at the Chase Park Plaza Hotel in St. Louis as one of St. Andrews Resources for Seniors System's Ageless-Remarkable St. Louisans' for 2010 for Dr. Thomas' remarkable contributions to the St. Louis metropolitan area. Proceeds of this event will benefit the St. Andrew's Charitable Foundation.

The City of Florissant together with the Missouri Department of Transportation unveiled a historic sign along I-270 referencing the Downtown Florissant St. Ferdinand Central Historic District. The unveiling ceremony was held on Thursday, July 29th at the Florissant City Hall.

White Birch Bay Aquatic Center
The City of Hazelwood has lower season pass prices to White Birch Bay Aquatic Center. These discount rates are effective from now until Labor Day on September 6th when the water park closes for the season at 5 p.m. CLICK HERE [PDF] for more information.

Hazelwood School District's science teacher Nicholle Von der Heyde conducted research aboard the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association ship for 14 days in the Gulf of Mexico in June as part of the NOAA's Teacher at Sea program. CLICK HERE [PDF] for details.
Pattonville School District approved a new facilities plan for the district and decided to ask voters to approve a $41 million zero tax rate increase bond issue during the Nov. 2, 2010 election to fund projects in the plan. The new facilities plan addresses issues related to maintenance, repairs, safety and fitness and includes projects at every school in the district. CLICK HERE [PDF] for more details.
The Public Policy Research Center has reported that Missouri foreclosures and mortgage defaults are four times higher than in previous decades. PPRC recommends that Missouri create a state-wide Homeownership Preservation Task Force to address rising home delinquencies and foreclosures. CLICK HERE for more information and complete report.

Dr. Kathryn Gray
Ritenour School District's Dr. Kathryn Gray was appointed as Assistant Principal at Ritenour High School. Dr. Gray joins the district from the Rockwood School District, where she was a high school teacher and part of the district's administrative leadership development program. SSM DePaul Health Center has chosen Dr. John "Jay" Moore to become the new Chief Medical Officer/Executive Director of Medical Affairs for SSM DePaul Health Center beginning in September. Dr. Moore is board certified in Internal Medicine and in Pediatrics. CLICK HERE [PDF] for more information.
US Bank released a recent article on "What Do the Latest Unemployment Numbers Mean for Your Business?" This article discusses the latest unemployment jump by 13,000 to 472,000 despite a Bloomberg survey that had forecasted them to fall to 450,000. CLICK HERE [PDF] to read whole article.
