A message from NCI President/CEO, Rebecca Zoll
NCI President / CEO, Rebecca
Zoll
|
Hello. We have started the year off at full speed,
gearing up for our North County Legislative Reception
this month. Once again, we are proud to host this
event, along with North County's four area Chambers
of Commerce, the Greater North County Chamber, the
North County Chamber, the Northwest Chamber, and
the Maryland Heights Chamber. We will have a full
house again this year and, based on reservations,
are expecting nearly all of our North County State
legislators to attend, including Senator Jane Cunningham,
Senator Rita Days, Senator Tim Green, Rep. Don Calloway,
Rep. Michael Corcoran, Rep. Rochelle Walton Grey,
Rep. Ted Hoskins, Rep. Albert Liese, Rep. Margo
McNeil, Rep. Gina Walsh, Rep. Steve Webb. Our members
are all looking forward to hearing about the issues
they are working on in Jefferson City. We will also
present the North County Legislative Agenda for
the year, which outlines the priorities for our
area at the reception. Thank you to SSM DePaul Health
Center for generously donating its wonderful May
Center and catering for this event; their kindness
and dedication to our community is very much appreciated.

A BIG THANK YOU goes to the Northwest Chamber of
Commerce for recognizing the work we are doing on
behalf of the entire community. North County Incorporated
was honored to receive the Chamber’s 2009 Community
Development Award. NCI president Kim Bakker,
past-president Lillie Dumas, and I were on hand
to accept this award from Chamber president Mike
LeBlanc. Congrats also to NCI member’s Bommarito
of Hazelwood who received the 2009 Business of the
Year Award, and Carolyne Simpson with St. John’s
Bank who was given the 2009 “Bette O’Keefe” Volunteer
of the Year Award.
We want to say a special congrats to NCI board
member, Dora Gianoulakis, president of the
Spanish Lake Community Assoc. for being named one
of the North County Journal's 2010 Award recipients.
The Journal chose this year's award recipients based
on their work to enrich the lives of others. A personal
"thanks" to the Journal for also recognizing me
with this honor, along with Rev. James Aldridge,
Jr. from the Glasgow Village community, and Frank
Finnegan with St. Louis Area Foodbank. Click
here for more details.
I would like to direct your attention to two
current issues NCI is working on, on behalf of the
community:
The
first issue is increasing awareness of the importance
of full participation in the 2010 Census.
It is critical that we as community and business
leaders do our part to encourage others to "BE COUNTED".
When an area's population is undercounted that area
can lose millions of dollars in federal funding
over a 10 year period of time - dollars that would
help our schools, our municipalities, our healthcare
system, and our infrastructure. NCI is working closely
with the Census Bureau to help do our part in spreading
the word about why participation is so important.
Please call me at (314) 895-6241 if you are interested
in what you can do to help in this endeavor or go
to www.NorthStLouisCounty.com
and click on the 2010 Census banner.
The
second issue is the importance of effective and
efficient METRO services for North St. Louis County.
For the past several months I have served on Metro's
Moving Transit Forward Advisory Council. This Advisory
Council has actively reviewed the long-range plan
developed by Metro officials and East-West Gateway
Council of Governments after many meetings with
area community and business organizations, Metro
riders and the public. To look at the Moving Transit
Forward Draft Plan and learn more about their findings
and recommendations for serving the St. Louis region
in years to come please go to www.movingtransitforward.org
This
year, NCI is proud to sponsor the City of Ferguson's
Live Well Twilight Run/Walk, on May 15th. All
proceeds for this 5K event will help benefit NCI
member, the Emerson YMCA's summer youth camp scholarship
program. Now is the time to get involved and register
to participate in this USTAF certified course through
Ferguson's beautiful historic neighborhoods. Professional
timing will be by Big River Running. The event also
offers something for the whole family with a one
mile fun run and lots of post-event festivities.
To sponsor, register or volunteer go to livewellferg5K.com.
We want more people in the North County area to
know about the many events and activities that are
offered here, as well as the many accomplishments
of our schools, students, residents, businesses
and communities, so please consider passing this
email along to your employees, neighbors and friends.
Thank you and have a fantastic month!
