Under beautiful, bright sunny skies, Ritenour officials took the exciting first step towards building the new high school auditorium and classroom addition – hosting the official ground breaking on June 1. The ceremony took place on the west side of Ritenour High School, in a grassy field that will soon be home to the new auditorium. The 84,000 square foot addition is scheduled to be completed in August of 2011.

More than 200 Ritenour students and staff members, construction representatives and local elected officials joined Superintendent Dr. Cheryl Compton and the Ritenour Board of Education for the first official turning of the dirt.

The RHS auditorium and classroom addition features a 750-seat auditorium; classrooms for band, choir, drama and orchestra use; a student art exhibit area; and much more. Featuring energy efficient new construction, the new building will be used by all Ritenour schools, students and the entire community.

While the auditorium and classroom addition itself is not expected to be completed until August of 2011, phase one of the project is scheduled to be finished this August. Phase one projects include additional parking, water detention and sewer work, utility relocation, street improvements, a new service road and more. Construction of the Ritenour High School Auditorium & Classroom Addition is funded by Proposition K, a $50 million bond issue Ritenour voters overwhelmingly approved in November of 2008.
