The Maryland Heights Chamber of Commerce is hosting its 16th Annual Golf Classic on June 4th at Crystal Springs Quarry Golf Club. To register for this event, CLICK HERE or call (314) 576-6603.
The City of Hazelwood will host its 6th Annual Community Art Fair and Used Book Sale on June 6th from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Hazelwood Community Center. Art pieces accepted include paintings and drawings in water color, acrylic, oil, pastel, charcoal and mixed media and cash prizes will be awarded. For more information, call (314) 731-0980.
The Spanish Lake Community Association is promoting Belle Bottom Hike It or Bike It on June 7th at the Columbia Bottom Conservation Area, 801 Strodtman Road. Beginning at 8:30 a.m., the public is invited to hike the three-mile River's Edge trail or bike the 10-mile route on the paved Confluence Trail. A naturalist-led hike will begin at 9 a.m. and a group-led bike ride will start at 9:30 a.m. Call (314) 877-6014 for reservations for the group-led tours.
Christian Hospital invites anyone who is currently undergoing or just finishing cancer treatment to experience a FREE makeover from certified cosmetologists on June 8th from 10 a.m.-noon at the Christian Hospital Resource Center. Ferguson-Florissant School District's Challenger Learning Center-St. Louis is offering Summer Camp sessions for students from third to eighth grade beginning June 15th. The camps will feature activities similar to what NASA astronauts experience in training, including simulated space missions. The City of Florissant's Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring its annual Summer Playground Program Monday through Friday, June 15th-July 24th from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The camp program is open to children between the ages of 6 and 12 and will consist of numerous activities. The Northwest Chamber of Commerce is hosting their 23rd Annual Golf Classic on June 22nd from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. at Innsbrook Resort Golf Course. The cost is $125 per player. To register for this event, call the Chamber at (314) 291-2131.

Jamestown Mall and the City of Black Jack will hold their 2nd Annual North County Community Festival on June 27th from 5-9:30 p.m. on the north side of the Mall in the lower lot. Hazelwood School District for making progress toward reaching goals that were set to seek and establish opportunities for minority and women-owned organizations pursuing business with the District. HSD set a goal of 25% minority business enterprise participation in construction projects and the most recent reports indicate that 22% of total expenditures were spent on minority-owned businesses. Great news! Three North County Rotary Clubs - Florissant, Lambert Airport and Overland -- have been applauded by the International Rotary Foundation for reaching or exceeding the $100 per member (average) mark in charitable giving to the Annual Programs Fund. The Florissant and Overland clubs were also given special recognition for exceeding $200 per member (on average) in support of the International Annual Programs Fund. Congratulations North County Rotarians!

Pattonville School District for recently having several employees honored for their outstanding performance and contributions. Rich Beckmann was honored by the Pattonville Fire District with a 2009 Community Service Award; Teresa Jercinovic received the Horace Mann Friend of Education Award; Phyllis Pasley was named Teacher of the Year; and Julie Purviance was named Support Staff Employee of the Year. Ritenour School District graduate Steve Cash for helping Team USA win its first-ever sled hockey World Championship. Cash, Team USA's starting goaltender, was named Player of the Game. St. Louis County Councilman Michael O'Mara for being selected to receive the 12th Annual Outstanding Citizen Award from the Old Jamestown Association. Mr. O'Mara has been a councilman in the fourth district since his election in 2000 and has provided leadership in addressing many important issues in St. Louis County.
 
The City of Hazelwood's White Birch Bay Aquatic Center is now open to the public (residents and non-residents) through September 7th from noon-7 p.m. daily. This facility includes some features that have never been seen in the Midwest, including a 360-degree bubble slide made in Sweden. The Department of Economic Development, Division of Workforce Development is connecting youth and young adults, ages 16 to 24, to an exciting work experience or internship at businesses this summer with the Missouri Next-Generation Jobs Team. Hazelwood School District's Walker Elementary joined more than 500 schools around the world by signing Student Signatures in Space® posters in celebration of Space Day 2009. Student Signatures in Space® provides middle and elementary school students with an opportunity to send digitized signatures into space and "feel a personal involvement with the crew and the mission." Pattonville School District parents who are new to Pattonville and have elementary or middle school children to enroll for the 2009-2010 school year can get an enrollment packet at the Pattonville Learning Center receptionist's desk from June 22nd to July 24th from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. The Learning Center is at 11097 St. Charles Rock Road in St. Ann.
The Public Policy Research Center recently released a policy brief to address the stimulus package rhetoric titled "American Recovery Reinvestment Act: Has Evaluation Been Left Behind?" The PPRC at the University of Missouri-St. Louis also recently joined together with RegionWise at Saint Louis University and The Institute for Urban Research at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville to assist with community improvement efforts by creating the Applied Research Collaborative, which will serve as a data clearinghouse, provide regional indicators and perform commissioned research projects, including trend analysis. Ritenour School District will save more than $188,000 during the 2009-2010 school year with awards from the E-Rate program. The SSM DePaul Health Center's Neurosciences Institute is investing more than $2 million in cutting-edge technology to greatly expand its treatment capabilities for strokes, aneurysms and other life-threatening neurovascular conditions. Less than 24 hours after a Biplane Angiography System went live at SSM DePaul, it was used to reverse the effects of a stroke in a 68-year-old patient.
