A message from NCI President/CEO, Rebecca Zoll

Did you know that:
|
|
- more than 100,000
individuals board a Metro bus, train
or van every day, amount to nearly
53 million rides a year?
|
|
- until the service
cuts in March 2009, Metro's ridership
had increased 18% over the previous
5 years?
|
|
- 97% of all jobs
in St. Louis City and County could
be reached by riding Metro transit
prior to the 2009 service reductions?
|
|
- metro's on-time
performance, vehicle reliability and
safety record rank among the best
in the nation?
|
|
- because of Metro
riders, there are 45,000 fewer vehicles
on the region's highways?
|
|
- Metro's Call-A-Ride
service provides more than 2,400 trips
each day to people with disabilities
and the elderly?
|
|
Hello. The North County Incorporated Board of Directors
has elected to support St. Louis County's transit
tax proposal, which calls for a one-half cent sales
tax increase for operations, maintenance and expansion
of MetroLink, MetroBus, and disabled and senior
public transportation. Proposition A will be on
the April 6th ballot. NCI encourages our members
to please support this critical regional initiative.
The NCI Board has chosen to endorse this because
a strong transit system is vital to the sustainability
and economic growth of our region. North St. Louis
County has one of the largest numbers of Metro riders
in the entire region.
Revenues generated from the tax could be used in
the following areas:
- Restoring job access lost during the 2009 service
cutbacks
- Improving MetroBus services and frequency
- Restoring Call-A-Ride access
- Increasing MetroLink frequency
- Passenger improvements such as security, lighting,
shelters, benches, and transit centers
- Technological improvements in fare collection,
computer-aided dispatch, and automated vehicle
location
- Maintenance of existing transit facilities
- Expansion of MetroLink
The new tax would generate approximately $75 million
a year for public transportation. For more information
about Prop A click
here.
