A message from NCI President/CEO, Rebecca Zoll
Dear NCI members and friends,
North
County Inc. has been busy this past month with our
annual NCI Salutes 30 Leaders in their Thirties
event. It was terrific to be able to recognize some
of our area's best up-and-coming professionals and
community and civic leaders at this event. A special
thanks to our campaign partners, the North County
Suburban Journals and News 20, who help make this
recognition even more special for those chosen by
featuring them in the media. News 20 will air a
television special from October 13th-18th showcasing
our NCI Salutes 30 Leaders in their Thirties event.
The show will air Tuesday at 7 p.m., Thursday at
10 p.m., Saturday at 4 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
We
are also pleased to announce that News 20 partnered
with NCI this year to produce a television special
on the opportunities available in our area's public
and private schools in the key careers that will
be critical in the future: math, engineering, technology
and science. A special thanks to Randy Gardner at
News 20 for the hours he dedicated to produce this
special and to the City of Black Jack and News 20
for broadcasting the special and allowing viewers
all across St. Louis to learn more about the impressive
job our schools are doing to prepare our youth for
the jobs that will be in demand long into the future.
This education special will air from today through
October 9th at 7:00 p.m., 9:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.
Thanks also to the Ferguson-Florissant, Hazelwood,
Jennings, Normandy, Pattonville, Ritenour, Riverview
Gardens School Districts, along with Incarnate Word
Academy, Trinity Catholic High School, and North
Tech for participating in this program.
I
also want to thank our many members who took time
out of their schedules this week to participate
in East-West Gateway Council of Government's (EWGCG)
"Renewing the Region" initiative, a planning process
that engages the public by asking them to look at
where the St. Louis region should be in 25 years
and generate ideas on how we can get there. EWGCG
is the regional planning council for eight counties
on both sides of the river. NCI was pleased to participate
in this process and host East-West Gateway for several
of their meetings. We appreciate our members' contributions
to this important process, which will help set the
direction for this regional agency serving the metropolitan
area.
This
past week, St. Louis County and St. Louis County
Economic Council worked with the Urban Land Institute
to look at long-term options for the Jamestown Mall
property. This group did an in-depth study of the
property, current use and surrounding community
and provided the community with their recommendations.
These recommendations can be seen this week and
next week on News 20 at the following times:
|
Tuesday at 7 p.m.
|
Thursday at 10 p.m.
|
Saturday at 4 p.m.
|
Sunday at 1 p.m.

NCI thanks St. Louis County, the Economic Council,
and the ULI team for including us in this process
and talking with many of our Board members, other
community leaders, and North County residents to
determine how this property could be used to best
serve the needs of the community long into the future.
A big congrats to NCI Vice-Chair Kim Bakker, with
SSM DePaul Health Center, for being honored with
the Maryland Heights Chamber of Commerce's 2009
