SSM DePaul offers healthy happening events for the community every month, during September, they are having their St. Louis Lose to Win Challenge event starting Thursday, September 6 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Competitors must be at least 18 years old, pre-register and attend a mandatory kick-off on September 10th or 11th. St. Louis County Police Department’s North County Precinct will be hosting a “Citizens Police Academy” beginning September 6th from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The academy will run for 8 consecutive Tuesday evenings ending October 25th. The 2011 Academy will be held at the Black Jack Fire Department station located at 5675 North Lindbergh near Jamestown Mall. Registration deadline is August 29th, 2011. OASIS Tutoring in partnership with Ferguson-Florissant School District, Hazelwood School District, Jennings School District, Normandy School District, Pattonville School District, Riverview Gardens School District and Ritenour School District is seeking volunteers over the age of 50 to work individually with young children who are struggling to learn to read. Fifty-eight high school students from the Hazelwood School District attended classes and workshops at the university five days a week for four weeks, courses included mathematics, science, writing, skills, career development and college planning.
