NCI Board supports
Metro and Prop A
Getting On Board
Metro
Transit recently unveiled its 30-year
long-range plan for "Moving Transit
Forward." The options in this plan would
not only restore services that were
cut last year, but also expand bus and
light rail and make the system more
attractive to the entire community.
The plan is important
not only for moving transit forward,
but also for making our region competitive
when it comes to attracting businesses
to St. Louis. The plan's options will
help more people reach jobs, while stimulating
job growth and economic development.
The plan is also financially responsible.
The options are divided into three phases
over thirty years.
Now that the plan is
complete, regional leaders and citizens
should support it. To build the projects
outlined in the plan, we need local,
state and federal funding. By creating
this plan, we as a region have taken
the first step toward competing for
federal funding - the primary funding
source for building new transit projects.
However, we can only compete for federal
dollars if we have the required local
match. North County Incorporated's Board
of Directors support St. Louis County's
transit tax proposal on April's ballot.
We are endorsing Prop A, because a strong
transit system is critical to the vitality,
sustainability and economic growth of
our entire region. If we are indeed
going to move transit forward, it's
time for all of us to get on board and
support it.
