The long-awaited Challenger
Learning Center recently opened in North
County and provides a unique, hands-on space
simulation experience for students, area corporations
and the general public. The center was founded
by the families of the astronauts lost in
the Challenger Shuttle Mission.

North County boasts many award-winning schools.
Twelve of these schools have received the
prestigious Blue Ribbon School designation
by the U.S.
Department of Education. Twelve have been
named Gold Star Schools by the Missouri
Department of Education. And three school
districts have earned Missouri's Distinction
in Performance, the state's highest achievement
award. Both public and private schools are
focused on character education, preparing
students for college and each use the latest

Area students in all grade levels have access
to a high quality education. Whether public
or private, North County provides a variety
of choices. Plus, North County high schools
offer some of the best sports programs in the
St. Louis area ... many of which have produced
a number of professional athletes over the years.

North County also has excellent
colleges, universities and technical schools.
The University
of Missouri is the largest public research
university in the St. Louis area recently investing
more than 100 million dollars to improve its
campus. It offers the only College of Optometry
in the state and it provides the largest number
of teachers in Missouri. |

St.
Louis Community College at Florissant Valley
is also expanding its campus with the recent
addition of its Advanced Manufacturing Center.
Now the college offers programs in many of
the advanced technical fields currently in
high demand. Both UM-St. Louis and Florissant
Valley Community College have also added curriculum
to meet growing workforce needs in biotech
and life sciences.
