2014 has gotten off to a great start. We have many exciting events planned for this year and are working diligently to make them all a rousing success.

Mark Your Calendars! NCI, in partnership with the Greater North County Chamber of Commerce, Maryland Heights Chamber of Commerce, and Northwest Chamber of Commerce will host our Annual North County Legislative Reception at Christian Hospital on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at 6 p.m. This is a free event, but space is limited and reservations are required. You must be a member of all or one of the organizations mentioned above to attend. Call NCI at (314) 895-6241 to reserve a seat.

Congrat’s to NCI Board Member Mayor Schneider on the City of Florissant being recognized by national online real estate site MOTOVO as the #1 small city to retire to in the United States.

Congratulations to NCI Board Member T.R. Carr on his unanimous appointment to the St. Louis County Police Board.

Another date you will want to mark in your calendar is NCI’s 37th Annual Breakfast. It will be held on Friday, May 16 in 2014 at the Renaissance St. Louis Airport Hotel. Plan on attending and watch for more details as the date draws closer.

Great Streets Initiative is hosting two “Community Vision Sessions” on February 1st. Group discussions will be held in the City of Dellwood's city hall at 9 am- Noon and the City of Ferguson's city hall at 1:30-4:30 pm. These sessions are a great opportunity to share your vision of a vibrant, prosperous West Florissant Avenue that includes the housing, shopping, transit, street and sidewalk amenities that you really want. White Auto Body Centers held their annual Christmas Car Giveaway again this year. Ana Maria Alfonso-Waller and Denise Beasley each received a “new” car at the annual event.
The Bridge at Florissant sends “HOME” to troops last month. A squad of U.S. military soldiers serving in Afghanistan received two care packages courtesy of The Bridge at Florissant. The packages, filled with snack foods, toiletries, games, and other needed supplies, are the result of The Bridge at Florissant’s “Home” collection and donation program which was wildly successful.
The Challenger Learning Center is thrilled to announce that they were recently awarded 3 grants from various groups. The largest was from The Express Scripts Foundation, which has awarded the Challenger Learning Center a $30,000 grant to go towards upgrading our current mission software and acquire a new mission scenario.
Incarnate Word Academy congratulates 3 seniors who have been nominated for the 2014 McDonald's All American Games. Gwen Adams, McKenna Treese and Nakiah Bell have been chosen for this honor. From a field of nominees, 24 female athletes will be chosen to compete in the Girls Game on April 2, 2014 in Chicago, IL.

City of Hazelwood firefighters and paramedics celebrated the 27th Anniversary of their bike donation program that involves repairing old bicycles and donating them to families in need.

City of Hazelwood Fire Chief, Dave Radel was presented with a check for $1,200 dollars from Missouri American Water through their Firefighter Grant program. Hazelwood FD will use these funds to continue its interdepartmental training program with the Robertson Fire Protection District. For the full story you can click here.

Hazelwood School District teacher Chris Link won a Peabody Leader In Education Award. He earned a $1000 dollar award and was surprised by representatives from Peabody Energy and district administrators and staff with this ceremonial check.
Pattonville School District was recently awarded The Northwest Chamber of Commerce’s 2013 Community Development Award. The award is given to an organization or individual to recognize their efforts and contributions toward advancing and improving the local community. The award was presented during the chamber's annual installation and awards banquet. During the meeting, Patty Gould, Pattonville director of school-business partnerships, was installed on the chamber Board of Directors, and Dr. Mike Fulton, superintendent, was honored for his time serving on the chamber board.

Greater North County Chamber of Commerce is now accepting applications for the 2014 scholarship program. The chamber will award six $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors who reside in the Greater North County service area, which includes the cities of Bellefontaine Neighbors, Black Jack, Ferguson, Florissant, Hazelwood, Jennings, Spanish Lake and surrounding unincorporated North St. Louis County. Jennings School District recently celebrated the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. Twenty Senior High students performed under the direction of the Jennings performing arts director, Mr. Dello Thedford at Powell Symphony Hall. Dignitaries in attendance included state representative Rochelle Walton-Gray and school board member and Jennings city councilwoman Yolanda Fountain-Henderson were also in attendance. City of Hazelwood celebrated its 12th Annual tribute to Martin Luther King on Sunday January 19th at Civic Center East in front of a packed house of 140 people. Several inspirational speakers such as The Honorable Judge David Vincent, III, of the 21st Judicial Circuit, St. Louis County Executive Charlie A. Dooley, Mayor Matthew Robinson of Hazelwood spoke. Express Scripts has appointed Tim Wentworth to take over as President, effective February 1st. Wentworth will report to Chairman and CEO George Paz who previously held the title of President. Wentworth will be responsible for the company's core business. “His focus and leadership will be critical as we take advantage of near- and long-term growth opportunities,” Paz said in a statement.
